The PPS is a familysub-machine guns chambered in 7.62×25mm Tokarev, developed as an upgrade to the famous PPSH-41 and developed by Alexei Sudayev as a low-cost personal defense weapon for reconnaissance units, vehicle crews and support service personnel, entering service in 1943. PPS is an abbreviation in Russian: Pistolet-pulemyot Sudayeva”, in English: “Sudayev’s submachine-gun”. Polish PPS WZ-43 were given the production license in 1948 and were produced between 1952–1955 by the Łucznik Arms Factory in Radom, manufacturing about 111,000 PPS submachine guns before producing the next model the PPS-43/52 with the fixed wood stock.
